Air Permitting Assistance
AquAeTer was approached by a client in the oil and gas industry with a request to provide air permitting assistance. The client was looking to expand their transloading capabilities into new states including Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New York, Tennessee, Arkansas among others. AquAeTer worked closely with state and local permitting divisions as it prepared the applicable air permit applications for operation. In general, the states were focused on emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs). AquAeTer developed a spreadsheet that utilizes basic principles of chemistry and chemical engineering to estimate emissions from over 150 compounds.
Utilizing the components of the transloaded products, the fundamentals of vapor pressure, Raoult’s law and product-content data developed by the client, AquAeTer made calculated predictions of the air emissions for these facilities. Subsequently, this facility met the requirements of a minor/synthetic source and their permit applications are pending approval.
In addition to helping develop a solid system for estimating emissions, AquAeTer also produced Sreen3 or AERMOD air dispersion models as required by regulations. We also provided a generic calculation spreadsheet that gave the client a rapid method for preparing future permit applications.
AquAeTer provided the following services to its client for this sampling and reporting project:
- Air permitting assistance
- Air emissions estimates
- Air dispersion modeling
